James Thomas Astley

James Thomas Astley is a student journalist currently based in Melbourne. After several years of traveling to different places in the world, James is currently studying his Master of Journalism degree at the University of Melbourne, where he has developed audio, video and written journalistic skills, with the ambition of becoming a sports writer. James has grown up with a sporting background in the UK, with a family enthusiastic about sport. Throughout his life, James has participated in various sports including Soccer, Cricket, Swimming, Squash amongst others through playing and coaching and later on taking an interest in writing and reporting.

With a passion for sport, James took his keen interest into his education with Batchelor’s degree in Sport, Leisure and Culture in Leeds, UK.

Since leaving the UK to go travelling in 2015, James has spent time in Asia and Australia, taking on different cultural experiences and attending sporting events all over the world, drawing upon those observations and understandings in his writing style to try and offer different aspects and points of views in a sporting and cultural context.
